Ruh Khus — The Soul of Vetiver, Distilled in Tradition

Among the most prized natural attars of India, Ruh Khus is a green, earthy essence extracted from wild North Indian vetiver roots, known locally as Khus. Its journey begins in the fertile soils around Aligarh, where the roots are harvested after enduring the dry heat of Indian summers — a stress that deepens their aromatic profile.

What makes Ruh Khus exceptional is not just the raw material, but the way it’s transformed. The roots travel east to Kannauj, the perfume capital of India, where they undergo hydro-distillation in traditional Deg-Bhapka stills — a slow, smoke-free process that captures the true soul of the plant.

The result is a deep green oil that smells like cool earth after rain, freshly cut grass and smoky. Both grounding and cooling, Ruh Khus has been used in Ayurveda and perfumery for centuries — not only for its scent, but for its calming, meditative properties.
